4G iPod slapping

I had experienced the iPod (4G) click-of-death before and got it working again before I read this nice piece of how someone else fixed it. It turns out that the hard drive cable connector is the problem. Inserting it firmly again fixed the click-of-death problem for several people.

What worked for my iPod is to slap it into the palm of my hand. Just hold it with your right and slap the bottom of it into the palm of your left hand. It works now for several weeks without any problems.

Knowing the explanation now, it is not difficult to predict that my approach will work not for everyone. Also, some day the problem might resurface again. But I can still pry open my beauty when the slapping does not help any longer.

( This all reminds me of the "3 inch solution" for my old Atari ST: chips on the main board would come lose in their sockets, so the easiest solution was to drop the computer from about 3 inches above your desk. This reinserted the chips enough to get it working again.)
