My mother has arrived in the 21st century by help of broadband access and a new iMac and she just loves it and is totally excited and fascinated. Hehe. I think it's the best christmas persent I ever made for her.
To explain her enthusiasm: she comes from the dark ages of ISDN dial-up and a rather lame windows 2000 PC. The dial-up was slow and awkward, the machine crashed on several occasions and I had to wrestle with it on every visit to get the latest windows updates installed.
Then, when the machine was unable to run long enough to downlaod the next big antivirus version, I had enough of it:
I will not sacrifice the Enterprise, I have made to many comprimises already, to many retreats....they envade our space and we fall back, they assimilate entire worlds and we fall back. But not again, the line must be drawn here! This far, no further!...And I....will make them pay for what they've done!
Actually, I think the last words were: ...will have to pay to make things better!
, but it loses some if its punch.
Anyway, when I now visit, I give computer classes to my mother and daughter. My mother at her iMac and my daughter at my MacBook Pro. They both love it (and make me very proud). Last time we did email, next time it will most likely be Skype. And my class is growing: my sister will be there as well with her windows laptop...I just have to remember to take pictures!
